Lars Tharp, a Chinese ceramics expert, was on hand to give his verdict on the pieces brought in by the man who admitted he had "no idea" what they were worth.

The most intriguing item was a double green vase, which he had picked up from a charity shop and spent less than £8 on the item.

He was stunned as he found out the vase was actually worth a lot more.

Giving some background about the vase, expert Lars shared: "In fact, it's not one vase, it's two vases.

"There's another vase inside, that's actually quite a tricky thing to do, but what's really special about this is the shape.

"This is one of the oldest shapes known to Chinese culture, this is an ancient shape."

Lars then revealed it was a popular shape from the Ming Dynasty and that the vase could be worth a huge £5,000 to £10,000 due to its age and its intricate nature.

Fans watching the show rushed to Twitter to share their excitement.

Alongside an array red love heart emojis, one person penned: "A £7.99 charity shop vase turns out to be a Ming dynasty vase. One day I'll find a treasure, too!"

A second added: "May you all be as happy this coming week as the fella on Antiques Roadshow who just found out his £7.99 purchase is from the Ming Dynasty."

While a third shared: "That man's reaction was so lovely."

Antiques Roadshow is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
