Kate, 55, attended the annual event at London's Wembley Arena on Thursday evening alongside her daughter Darcy, 16.

The journalist won the gong for the best Authored Documentary category for Kate Garraway: Caring for Derek.

Despite the late night, Kate was back on our screens this morning at 6am for GMB alongside co-host Ben Shephard.

"Hello there, good morning. Welcome to the programme - and the champion," Ben said to viewers.

Kate giggled back: "The champion. I don't know about that!"

Ben went on to imply that that Kate had already lost her award from last night.

He said: "Thrilled to bits. I was hoping we would be able to show you the trophy, the National TV Award itself, however Kate Garraway has lost it..."

Kate clapped back: "No I haven't lost it!

"This is the kind of libellous talk. I have not lost it, I felt a bit awkward bringing it in because it's a sensitive subject. So I just thought, it was right there by the door and I don't want people to think I'm sort of showing off."

Ben then went on to tell viewers that the GMB team were trying to get the award to the studio.

Kate went on to explain why winning was so special to her, when a member of the crew walked on set with her gong.

She asked her: "Was it where I said?"

"Yes," the crew member replied.

It was a night to remember for Kate won as she won her category for the second year running.

During her acceptance speech, an emotional Kate said Derek is continuing to "fight" and will be home soon after another stint in hospital.

She said: "Well I really didn’t expect this.

"So, the mercy of that is that this is going to be brief as I have very little prepared.

"I’ve got my daughter here, Darcey. We managed to speak to Derek, he is back in hospital at the moment, fighting on so incredibly. We’re hoping he is coming home again soon.

"Darcey represents all the family."

She continued: "I want to thank Derek for his incredible fighting spirit, we love you. I want to thank ITV for being so brave to put something which actually is touched in all the incredible documentaries, about care.

"We have a care crisis in our country, but we don’t have a crisis of love.

"The professional carers are extraordinary, the millions who care for who they love are extraordinary.

"And I think that’s probably why you voted for this, because you know it’s all of you.

"We all feel alone, we all need some care and love.

"So thank you so much, it means the world to all of those people. Thank you so much."

The documentary beat Julia Bradbury: Breast Cancer and Me, Katie Price: What Harvey Did Next, Paddy and Christine McGuinness: Our Family and Autism and Tom Parker: Inside My Head.

Back in March 2020, Derek, 54, contracted Covid and has been fighting to overcome his health problems ever since.

Derek returned to his family home in April 2021 after over a year in hospital, but was recently rushed back after contracting sepsis.

Kate wrote in a piece for The Sun: "Derek is back in hospital after developing sepsis that again threatened his life and we are again fighting to get him home.
