Waterloo Road school was last seen on screens in 2015 when the show was axed after airing for nine consecutive years, seemingly for good.

But as fans have known for months, with stars of the soap making their ways back to the set, the program is set for a thunderous comeback.

Since it was announced, viewers have been waiting at the edge of their seats, ready to count down the days before Waterloo Road's return.

Bosses have cleared all doubts up in a short video recently posted on Instagram.

More Waterloo Road stories

In the clip, featuring the show's theme tune over a blurred-out video of pupils wearing the iconic maroon tops, a reworked Waterloo Road graphic announces change is also on the cards for the show - just in time for the New Year.

"A brand new logo for a brand new Waterloo Road. Coming to BBC One and BBC iPlayer in early 2023", the caption reads.

Actress Angela Griffin responded to the post with a series of clapping hands emojis.

The TV star portrayed Kim Campbell in the first five seasons of Waterloo Road and will be reprising her role as the new headteacher.

Returnees also include Adam Thomas and Katie Griffiths aka Donte Charles and Chlo Grainger.

The pair are married in the upcoming Waterloo Road and ready to return to the school where they first met, this time, as members of the staff.

But as mentioned above, the show's revival will also include some changes to the Waterloo Road staff.

Former Corrie actress Kym Marsh will be joining the soap as dinner lady Nicky Walters, whose children Preston and Tonya are pupils attending the school.
