Freddie Flintoff’s son reveals Top Gear host is ‘lucky to be alive’ after terrifying crash while filming episode

FREDDIE Flintoff's son has revealed the Top Gear host is "lucky to be alive" after he was involved in a terrifying crash while filming an episode.

Corey Flintoff, 16, said his family have been left "shocked" after the ex-England cricket star, 45, was rushed to hospital following the accident.

The shocking smash happened during filming of the hit BBC One series at Dunsfold Park Aerodrome.

The father-of-four was then airlifted to hospital following the terrifying crash on Monday.

Freddie was confirmed to be injured whilst filming a segment for the show, with the cameras rolling at the time.

And his son Corey said his mother had raced to her husband's side.

He told MailOnline: "He's OK. I'm not too sure what happened but he is lucky to be alive.

"It was a pretty nasty crash. It is shocking. We are all shocked but just hope he's going to be OK."

His co-star Chris Harris was also at the test track when the accident happened.

Those close to the dad-of-four said his injuries were "not life-threatening", despite his worrying hospital dash.

More details about the smash are expected to be confirmed over the coming days.

Sources told The Sun yesterday: "All the usual health and safety measures were in place for filming too. Freddie was taken to hospital by air ambulance shortly afterwards. 

"Filming has been postponed for now and all anyone cares about is Freddie recovering."

After an incredible career as an England cricketeer, Freddie - real name Andrew - switched his career to TV.

In 2018, he was announced as the new host of Top Gear alongside Paddy McGuinness and Chris Harris.

The trio were an immediate hit with viewers and the show moved from BBC Two to a primetime slot on BBC One after 18 years in 2020.

Meanwhile, Freddie's smash is the latest setback for the "cursed" show, following his narrow escape after a horror 124mph crash in 2019.

He miraculously walked away from the "near-death" crash unscathed, insisting he was "absolutely fine."
