The barmaid - who is played by actress Linda Henry in the BBC soap - is struggling to come to terms with Mick being lost at sea after a car crash.

She broke down last night before lashing out at Scarlett and terrifying the youngster in the process.

But tonight she went to make things right, telling Scarlett that she didn’t blame her for what her mum did.

And then she made a decision for herself - to go and stay with her daughter Carly and leave the Square behind.

After an emotional goodbye with Jean Slater, Shirley went home to get Lady Di.

Denise met Shirley outside of the Vic where Shirley dropped the bombshell on her.

“Would you keep an eye on this place for me?” she said, handing over the keys.

“I don’t really think this place is home for me anymore. Not without Mick and Tina.

“And I’d drive myself mad with just me and their ghosts. I just need some time.”

With that she walked out of Albert Square with Lady Di for good.

Viewers were left in pieces at the shocking exit but couldn’t help but notice that Shirley hadn’t packed any bags for her leaving.

One wrote: "People leave Walford with only a few possessions. That bag would barely hold my make-up #Eastenders"

A second said: "Where is Shirely's belongings?! #EastEnders"

Another added: "Walking into the sunset with Lady Di and a tiny rucksack."

However The Sun can reveal that Shirley will be back after actress Linda has had a well-earned break from the soap.
