The series stars EastEnders actress Jo Joyner, Coronation Street's Ciarán Griffiths, and Neighbours' Peter O’Brien, as well as A Place to Call Home and Outlander star David Berry and Wentworth's Ally Fowler.

British born Alison, played by Jo, is based in Australia where she has just married Aussie native Sean Weston, played by former Neighbours star Peter O'Brien.

However with her ex-husband wanting her back, questions are raised when Sean mysteriously goes missing.

Did he disappear in the riptide during his morning surf or is there more to his disappearance than meets the eye?

Meanwhile last night's episode saw the police quiz Sean's son Ethan after their argument on the beach came to light.

Viewers of the latest episode however were all left saying the same thing about the latest Channel 5 show.

After watching, viewers weren't too impressed as they branded the show "crap" and took to social media to complain.

One viewer wrote: "#riptide this is bulls**t!!! Nobody would be telling that neighbour everything about their life like that. He is a stranger. So unbelievable it’s b******s."

Another added: "#riptide this is so bad can't believe I'm still watching it."

A third raged: "This is frustrating pile of s**t #Riptide."

A fourth fumed: "Can anyone name a drama/program on #Five that they’d recommend? We’ve just switched off #RipTide half way through ep.2, it’s similar to the wooden acting on Australian soap operas, but sadly I’m no longer 13 and not a fan of ads every 10 mins. Subscription service? #FoxtrotOscar!

But despite some viewers not approving of the new drama, others had nothing but good things to say.

One viewer wrote: "Riptide is a great watch. The actors is fantastic."

Another added: "Loving the new Channel 5 drama, Riptide."

A third echoed: "This new show on Channel 5 is cool #Riptide"

The thriller, landed on Channel 5 and My 5 on Tuesday, December 27, and will air over four consecutive nights this week.

Riptide continues tonight at 9pm on Channel 5.
