Called Changing Ends, Alan will star as himself in the comedy show which is being made for the brand new streaming platform.

It's based on Alan’s own life in Northampton in the 1980’s growing up as the son of a fourth division football manager.

Rising star Oliver Savell will play the role of young Alan, while Carr plays himself in the present day scenes.

Viewers can expect to learn about Alan's early years as he dealt with puberty, adolescence, and finally self-discovery and coming out as gay, all against the backdrop of Thatcher’s Britain.

The series has been written by Alan and Scottish BAFTA & RTS award winning Simon Carlyle, who also wrote the Two Doors Down sitcom.

Filming has already begun on the six-episode series, which will debut first on ITVX.

It comes after Alan was snubbed from joining the Britain's Got Talent judging panel by show bosses.

The Sun previously revealed how former Strictly Come Dancing judge Bruno Tonioli was chosen by Simon Cowell over the comedian.

A TV insider said: “For almost two months Alan may have been the favourite to take over from David, but Bruno was always Simon’s preferred choice.

“Not only does he have years of judging experience under his belt from his time on Strictly he will bring an outrageous brand of comedy that BGT needs on the panel.

“In so many ways this is already the perfect job for Bruno as it sees him return to a glitzy showbusiness favourite that fits in with the rest of his work.
