Health and Safety Executive officials launched a probe into last month’s chaos as medics had to treat contestants suffering from the extreme cold.

Hopefuls competing for a £3.7million prize spent hours in temperatures of -3C and had to remain completely motionless to win one game.

One said: “It was like a warzone. People were getting carried out by medics.” The game show is based on the South Korean TV hit about a deadly contest.

Dozens of people could now sue the streaming giant amid claims they were treated like animals during filming which ended this week at Cardington Studios, a former RAF base near Bedford.

The HSE said yesterday: “We contacted the programme producers after receiving concerns about their recent filming.

“We reviewed the responses from the producers and decided to take no further action.

"We did stress to them the importance of planning properly for any risks in future filming.”

Squid Game: The Challenge’s makers said: “Netflix, Studio Lambert, and The Garden have done everything required by the health and safety legislation and the HSE have said they have assessed and closed the matter.”
