Dan Walker admits he is ‘lucky to be alive’ after nasty accident leaves his face covered in blood

DAN Walker has suffered nasty injuries after a car crash left him covered in blood.

The TV star shared pictures of his "mess" of a face this morning admitting he was "glad to be alive".

The 45-year-old former BBC Breakfast presenter revealed his bloodied swollen face while laid up in an ambulance.

He also posted a selfie with the NHS staff who were caring for him.

The presenter said he was travelling on his bike when he was hit by a car.

The dad-of-three escaped seemingly without major injuries.

He doesn't believe he came away with any broken bones.

Police and ambulance crews were called to the scene.

He tweeted: "Bit of an accident this morning. Glad to be alive after getting hit by a car on my bike.

";Face is a mess but I don’t think anything is broken.

"Thanks to Shaun and Jamie for sorting me out and the lovely copper at the scene.

"Thankful for our NHS."

His agent told : "Walker is now in hospital recovering.

"It is understood the accident took place when the TV presenter was cycling from his home in Sheffield to the train station, where he was going to the Channel 5 studios in London."

The picture was captured in a Yorkshire Ambulance Service vehicle.

Dan's tweet was flooded with replies of well wishes.

One person said: "Hope you're all good, Dan. Hell of a hit that."

Meanwhile another added: "Oh my god. Very nasty. Take care, hope you get better soon."

Dan recently interviewed Nicola Bulley's partner Paul Ansell.

In a bid to help locate the missing mum-of-two, Paul gave a heartbreaking TV interview on Channel 5.

The journalist left the BBC in May after six years for a new role at Channel 5.
