EASTENDERS fans have broken down in tears as Whitney Dean had a termination tonight.
The market trader - who is played by actress Shona McGarty in the BBC soap - faced the difficult choice to end her pregnancy tonight after the baby was diagnosed with Edward’s Syndrome.
The condition means that the baby would die soon after birth.
With all the facts, Whitney and Zack decided to terminate to prevent their unborn daughter from suffering.
But at the hospital before their appointment, Whitney felt the baby kick and she was struggling with the decision.
The nurse told her: “You take one tablet today. You understand that once the process has begun, there isn’t an option to change your minds. We can’t stop the termination.”

She explained to Whitney how the process would work, telling her to prepare herself for some considerable pain.
Leaving Whitney and Zack alone with the pill, the nurse went out of the room to give them some privacy.
But after feeling the baby kick, Whitney was struggling.
“I don’t know how to do this,” she said.

Realising she was struggling, Zack stepped in to say goodbye to their daughter.
“You are so loved little girl,” he said.
“We wanted to meet you so bad. It would have made us a family, and I don’t think either of us have ever had that before, have we?
“And we’re so sorry. I’d fight lions for you. I’ll even dress up as a little princess. I wanted to show you the sea, teach you how to bake a cake, swim and lift weights.
“I’d give everything I’ve got to hear your voice. We love you so much little Peach.”
Whitney then whispered: “I love you so much. Me and daddy are here.”
With that she took the pill but the emotional scenes were too much for viewers.
They broke down in tears watching them.
One wrote: "Poor Whitney I'm in tears watching this."
