Viewers of the new film - The Strays - flocked to social media as they recognised the actor who played Samir Rachid in Corrie.

The Netflix thriller, set in a quaint suburban town, sees Al play the manager of a creepy hotel - and strange things start to happen as two guests arrive for a visit.

Taking to Twitter over the weekend, shocked fans couldn’t believe their eyes after spotting the former soap legend.

One fan posted: “Watched The Strays on Netflix last night and guess who had a bit part as the hotel manager?”

While another simply posted: “Samir!” as a third said: “Is that Samir, Deirdre’s husband?”

Al looked noticeably different than his soap-star days as he donned a bushy greying beard and longer hair during his latest role.

Al played toy boy Samir, who wed Cobbles icon Deirdre Barlow and was involved in some of the soap's biggest 90s plot lines.

His final controversial storyline saw Samir tragically murdered in a brutal gang attack in 1995.

Since then, he has appeared in a number of stage roles before making a comeback to the screen in minor acting jobs.

Among them was a role in Netflix's Bridgerton, where he portrayed one of the Lords in waiting.
