TAKING THE MICK

The One Show’s Alex Jones takes savage swipe at Danny Dyer as new game show hits Netflix

DANNY Dyer is not one to find himself lost for words often but Alex Jones managed to leave him stumped after a cheeky swipe on The One Show.

The actor and TV presenter, best known for playing Mick Carter on EastEnders, appeared on the teatime talk show alongside Strictly's Ellie Taylor to promote their new Netflix gameshow, Cheat.

Joining hosts Alex Jones and Jermaine Jenas on the sofa, the pair were grilled on how the gameshow worked, and what their roles were in the game of deceit.

“Well first of all it’s a very odd duo, it does work for some reason," Danny said of his partnership with comedian and Ted Lasso star Ellie.

“I was trying to think about what I do in it because Ellie brings sophistication and class.”

Asking Ellie for some help describing what he does on the show, Alex quickly swooped in and said: "The thing is Ellie asks the questions and you’re faffing about really."

She then tried to soften the blow, by adding: “You know, sort of on the side with the contestants, in the nicest possible way.”

Thankfully Danny saw the funny side of the moment as those in the studio could be heard giggling at the off-handed comment.

"I sort of am, yeah. When we were filming I thought I was doing a lot but actually, when I watched it, I thought, ‘you’re not doing much in it’," he laughed.

“I just float about and I try to stir the pot because what you want is the contestants kicking off with each other, throwing shade and it’s about the psychology.”

The new series, which launches on Netflix today, sees Danny and Ellie join forces as contestants attempt to cheat their way to a cash prize of more than £50,000.

Contestants can be given the answers as long as they don't get caught, having to blag their way through the show in order to take home the dosh.

The show marks Danny's first major show since leaving EastEnders on Christmas Day 2022, when Mick disappeared into the ocean in a bid to save love Linda (Kellie Bright) after she's in an accident with Janine (Charlie Brooks).

Unfortunately, he never reemerged, leaving both women on the coastline screaming for him to come back.
