Looking distraught, Martin admitted he wasn't sure if he should be posting the video as it was a personal matter.

"But I guess people deal with things in different ways," he said.

He continued: "This is a very private thing but I kind of just need to surround myself with as many people who care right now...so I consider you my friends."

Martin struggled to contain his sobs as he continued: "My dad died yesterday, he was 90 and he had a great life and erm...he died peacefully, he died at home and he wasn't in pain so that's great.

"But it doesn't...well it does help but it doesn't help right now."

As he sniffed and tried to compose himself, he said: "The loss of a parent is something we all have to deal with, and there's much worse losses I know - the loss of a child and stuff like that - but right now I feel really alone and horrible.

"So any words you've got would be appreciated."

The Homes Under the Hammer star then took a number of breaths to try and get his emotions in check before adding: "Thank you for being there anyway."

Martin's followers were quick to offer their support and condolences.

One wrote: "Heartfelt condolences to you and yours Martin. Your Father must have been an incredible man to have shown you how to be such a warm and compassionate human being. He'll have been so proud of you."

Another added: "Oh mate, I'm so sorry. Everyone has their own way of dealing with loss, and there is no perfect way either.

"Take each day moment by moment, and allow yourself time to grieve. It will get easier, but never mind that today. Just keep on breathing for now xxx."

A third tweeted: "Sorry to hear your sad news, Martin. I, like so many others, have sat in your seat and felt that pain. It will ease and you will always remember your wonderful Dad. Best wishes, mate."
