THERE was chaos on MasterChef as judge Gregg Wallace refused to eat one contestant's dish during the opening episode of the latest series.

The BBC One show returned with Gregg Wallace and John Torode at the helm to offer up their advice and expertise to the nine new hopeful chefs.

Despite promise amongst the new cooks in the kitchen, things quickly took a turn for one contestant who left judge Gregg feeling "uncomfortable".

Put under time pressure, Woei was in a race to get his food ready to be served up in just five minutes.

"Under control, don't worry, the sauce is done. Hopefully it doesn't blow John and Gregg away with the heat," he told the show's new floor manager - who fans previously accused of being a 'distraction' thanks to his good looks.

Woei had the right idea as he attempted to serve up what could have been a tasty dish - but it quickly fell flat.

Amongst a tomato and chilli sauce and a bed of blue basmati rice and tempura curry leaves were two pieces of marinated chicken.

An impressed John initially told Woei: "I love that sauce. Rich and buttery, sweet with tomato and nice chilli heat running through the back of it.

"The thing with the curry leaf, it's nice and crispy but because they are curry leaves, they stay quite greasy."

Gregg was next up to take a look and while he praised Woei for his 'light and fluffy' rice, he pointed out he was unimpressed by his undercooked chicken.

Admitting he felt "uncomfortable", Gregg explained: "I have issues with this chicken. There's a pink tinge on the insides of my bits of chicken, which is putting me off.

"They're undercooked. Not all of it but enough to make me uncomfortable."

Woei took the comments in his stride - later commenting: "You have to learn how to take criticism as well. Resilience is the most important part of life."

Fortunately, Woei was one of four hopefuls who managed to move on to the next stage of the contest in the quest to become the BBC's next MasterChef champion.
