ITV viewers seriously distracted as ‘creepy’ Hugh Laurie makes Why Didn’t They Ask Evans? debut

FANS were all left shocked as Hugh Laurie made his first on-screen appearance in ITV’s latest Agatha Christie drama Why Didn’t They Ask Evans?

The three-part ITV drama has been brought to life by the actor as he directed the series and has now even made a cameo appearance.

The programme follows Bobby Jones (Will Poulter) as he searches for answers after finding himself at the scene of a mysterious death.

As part of the whodunnit, the show opened with Bobby finding the victim, Alex, below the cliffs.

Just before he died, Alex said to Bobby: “Why didn’t they ask Evans?,” setting the stage for the rest of the show.

63 year old Hugh decided to bring the Christie book to life after being a fan growing up and even decided to give himself the part of Dr James Nicholson, who made his first appearance in the second episode of the ITV drama.

However some felt his ‘creepy’ appearance to be somewhat of a distraction.

Writing online, one fan said: “I’m not used to creepy Hugh Laurie but he plays it so well!”

Another added their confusion over seeing Hugh popping up on screen as they said: “I didn’t know Hugh Laurie was in it too.”

Fans were left impressed with Hugh’s adaptation as they called on him to make more for the broadcaster.

One adoring fan said: “Congrats to Hugh Laurie on #WhyDidntTheyAskEvans Excellent adaptation of a classic Agatha.”

As a second echoed: “Would definitely love to see more Agatha Christie adaptations by Hugh Laurie [sic].”

Despite this, many fans compared the show’s first episode to the same as ‘watching paint dry’ as they slammed its slow-moving pace.
