The children's TV show was set in a North London comprehensive school and ran for a whopping 31 series.

And now its writer Sir Phil Redmond has officially confirmed the film adaption and said the scripts have been created.

While the plotline for the reboot is being kept under wraps, Sir Phil told Deadline Sara Sugarman's character Jessica Samuels will be at the centre.

He said: “Sara reached out, and that hit a light bulb in my head.

“I thought, ‘Why don’t I look beyond the main characters, which is obvious, and we’ll have them all there for nostalgia, but where did Jessica go?’.”

Jessica was the head of the Grange Hill student action group in the TV series.

Sara, 60, will also direct scenes but has revealed she will have to audition for an on-screen role like the rest of the cast.

She told Deadline: "I’ve been very strongly given my orders: I have to audition like everyone else. So that’s where we are with that.”

Other legendary members of the cast will make appearances, with Sugarman teasing: “It wouldn’t be Grange Hill without the Grange Hillers, and there will be some surprises."

With over 600 episodes created, Grange Hill tackled important topics such as bullying, learning difficulties, relationships and conflicts.

Redmond, who is also known for his writing on Hollyoaks and Brookside, has said the movie will also tackle social issues.

He previously publicly begged bosses at the BBC to bring back the beloved series.
