In the episode aired last night, contestant John made the judges a sugar-free chocolate tart.

Much to the dismay of judge Gregg, 60, who was left unimpressed.

He also claimed the treat was "too wet in the middle".

The recruitment consultant was brought to tears as he explained he had chosen to make the dessert sugar-free, inspired by his daughter who is a Type 1 diabetic.

He chose to instead artificially sweeten the chocolate pudding.

But viewers criticised him for garnering sympathy from the judges.

Fans of the show took to social media to share their thoughts, with one writing: "Sympathy vote for John."

Another fumed: "Emotional blackmail sh**housery from John can’t beat it."

A third called out the spread of misinformation, stating: "If you're watching MasterChef, then please know that Type 1 Diabetics can eat chocolate, sugar, cake, anything - allergies and intolerances aside. Those who don't eat those things follow their own diet choices."

A fourth penned: "The guy on MasterChef with the type 1 diabetic daughter is doing my fruit in. She doesn't need to miss out."

It comes after fans raged about the show airing the misleading comments regarding the condition.

The NHS states that you don't have to cut out sugar when you have Type 1 diabetes.

In fact, you should always keep something with a high sugar content on you in case you need to raise your blood glucose levels.

Taking to Twitter, one wrote: "People with type 1 diabetes can eat sugar. Like everything, moderation is key."

"I'm pretty sure type 1 can have sugar," mused another.

Viewers were recently left baffled whilst watching the show when one of the contestants appeared to have been "banned" from simply saying the word "cornflakes".
