The eight-part BBC 1 series – called Amanda and Alan’s Italian Job - was one of the highest rating factual entertainment shows of this year.

The pair left audiences in stitches of laughter as they renovated a crumbling Sicilian holiday home while getting to grips with power tools and drinking aperol spritz.

Amanda revealed on her Instagram yesterday that over 15 million people have watched the current series across BBC1 and iPlayer.

She said: “Over the moon to let you know that the second series of Amanda and Alan: The Italian Job is in the making. @chattyman and I start filming in a few weeks! Exact destination to be revealed soon!!

“Over 15 million of you watched it!! So THANK-YOU!”

A TV insider said: “This was a no-brainer recommission, in fact it was given the green light after Episode 1 aired. Continuing an Italian theme, TV’s new golden duo will this time renovate a building in Tuscany with filming starting in a few weeks time.

“Everyone is so excited. Series one raised over £100k for Comic Relief and Children In Need as their two-bedroom, two-bathroom renovated apartment has been sold.

While ITV is dealing with a fall-out between Holly and Phillip, The Sun can exclusively reveal that Amanda and Alan are becoming TV’s new golden couple, having had a string of meetings with all major TV networks in the UK over recent weeks.

The insider continued: “Amanda and Alan are overwhelmed at the love shown for their TV chemistry and TV networks and production companies have been scrambling over themselves to get Amanda and Alan into meeting rooms to pitch new show ideas for the duo.

“However with Series two being filmed this summer it looks like this may be impossible.

"Amanda is busy with BGT and presenting her daily Heart Breakfast radio show while Alan will be a judge on Mama Mia: I Have A Dream and his new biopic comedy Changing Ends is in production.

“There just isn’t any time left in their diaries this year to take on a new project but they are seriously looking at their schedules for 2024 to fit something in. The two of them really are TV gold.”
