Behind Dermot sits Rochelle Humes, Joel Dommett and Alison Hammond, according to the bookies.

And despite odds being on Dermot for Phillip’s replacement, some fans think it’ll be Alison Hammond.

One said: "Alison Hammond would be the best replacement for Schofield."

A second commented: "Holly will be much better on her own presenting with other members of the team! If it wasn’t for her and Alison Hammond people would have switched off a long time ago."

"Alison Hammond should take over This Morning, who's with me," said a third.

While a fourth said: "Alison and Holly would work so well together honestly."

Meanwhile, broadcaster ITV released a statement detailing who will be stepping into the shoes of the presenter after Phil made the shock announcement.

"After more than 20 years on the This Morning sofa, Phillip Schofield has stepped back from ITV's flagship morning show having presented his last episode on Thursday 18 May," they penned.

"Having co-hosted the multi-award winning show for two decades, Phillip will continue to present peak time shows for ITV including next month's The British Soap Wards and a new prime time series.

"Holly Willoughby will remain on This Morning and will co-present with members of the This Morning family."
