Hit Channel 4 reality show faces the axe after ‘mistakes were made during filming’
A HIT Channel 4 reality show is facing the axe after ‘mistakes were made during filming’.
The broadcaster’s new format Rise and Fall may not return for a second series despite being popular with viewers.
DJ Greg James hosted the social experiment that looks at how money and power influence how individuals treat one another.
The players have the chance to rise and fall, from having everything to having nothing, in a game rife with drama, betrayal, and power manoeuvres.
In a surprise move, Deadline reports that cash-strapped Channel 4 could be about to ditch the show after one series.
The reluctance to renew Rise and Fall is said to be due to the sheer amount it costs to produce the programme.
Channel 4’s boss Ian Kaz was said to be ” 50/50 about whether Rise and Fall would be renewed soon after it transmitted, but there is a growing sense that it will be difficult for the show to return given it was expensive to produce and fell well short of The Traitors”.
The outlet also reports “mistakes were made during filming” as it was a fast turnaround production.
The Sun Online understands the broadcaster is yet to make a decision on whether or not to bring the show back.
When contacted, a spokesperson said: “It would be untrue to suggest the series has been axed.”
Eddy Fulford from Devon was crowned victorious after rising to the top on the show.
The software manager had to battle against the four remaining contenders in the Red Room – Matt, Moses, Ramona and Sydney.
Meanwhile, The Sun previously reported how SAS: Who Dares Wins has been axed from the schedules.
Bosses confirmed the news but denied claims they were reviewing many of its shows.
A TV insider said: “Losing such a big-name show is a disturbing sign for C4 as it faces an uncertain future in a market which will be difficult for even the biggest broadcasters and streaming services.
“Although the show’s celebrity spin-off will continue, losing the civilian version will be worrying given that it’s one of the channel’s best-known brands. The fear now is that it may be a sign of things to come.”
