Grand Designs viewers slam ‘awful’ property which ‘looks like an estate agents’ in latest Channel 4 episode

GRAND Designs lovers took to social media to share their discomfort at a so-called 'dream' home featured in this week's episode.

British designer Kevin McCloud is back hosting the third series of Grand Designs: The Streets.

This season Kevin travels the country looking at innovative and pioneering community projects.

His hunt for new builds and designs saw the presenter in York on this week's episode, where he met entrepreneur, Jonathan.

Jonathan was building a home with an experimental new system of wooden boxes held together with bolts. However, his three-storey project was challenging to complete.

If he and designer Caleb were successful in completing the build, it would be the largest structure ever built using this technique.

Jonathan did manage to win that title; however, the home designed for him, and his son was not for everyone.

The modern, open design came under fire on Twitter, with one viewer commenting: "This guy is alright building a Lego-style house, but when the time comes to sell, no one will be able to get a mortgage on it. #GrandDesigns."

Another said: "Like walking into an open plan estate agent #GrandDesigns."

One unimpressed onlooker added: "Sorry, but that house is f**kin awful. #granddesigns."

Despite host Kevin complimenting Jonathan and Caleb on the "remarkable job" they produced, a spectator chimed in: "Yikes, that looks more like a business building than a home. #GrandDesignsStreets #GrandDesigns."

The months of hard work on the home did not go unnoticed by some fans of the show, though.

"Cool system, and I really liked the house, but how safe would it be if there was a fire?" a viewer questioned.

Another liked the building system and said: "Fantastic system, allowing major scope in terms of open plan."
