Two beautiful British Netflix stars vie to be named Superman’s new Lois Lane
TWO British Netflix stars are in a battle to become Superman’s new Lois Lane.
Bridgerton star Phoebe Dynevor and Sex Education’s Emma Mackey have both shot a screen test for the Hollywood franchise.
Phoebe, 28, who is best known for playing Daphne Bridgerton, and Emma, 27, who played Maeve Wiley in the Netflix series – both headed for the casting.
The stars were joined by US actress Rachel Brosnahan, who starred in the Marvellous Mrs. Maisel and House of Cards.
The hopefuls shot their scenes opposite Nicholas Hoult, Tom Brittney and David Corenswett, all of whom are vying for the role of Superman following Henry Cavill’s axe.
Emma was brought back in for a second screen test, this time in costume – but sources told The Hollywood Reporter this did not mean she was the front-runner.
In fact, US industry bible is reporting that Rachel Brosnahan appears to be the lucky one to have landed the role.
While nothing official has been confirmed, the site is claiming that Rachel, along with David Corenswett, have “locked up” the roles of Lois and Clark.
Actresses who have previously starred as Lois Lane include Joan Alexander, Noel Neill, Phylliss Coates and Margot Kidder.
Lead actor Henry, 40, left the Superman franchise after the release of the last film, Justice League, back in 2017.
He parted ways with Warner Bros the following year, failing to return for superhero film Shazam! due to scheduling conflicts.
Henry became the Man of Steel in 2013 before starring in Batman vs Superman and Justice League.
He was “dumped” from the franchise as it shifted its focus towards a Supergirl movie, featuring a star heroine.
Elsewhere, Phoebe has gone on to star in Netflix comedy Bank of Dave and erotic thriller Fair Play since her Bridgerton role.
Emma is set to star in the upcoming Barbie movie alongside Margot Robbie.
Rodrigo's debut
OLIVIA Rodrigo is set to release the follow-up to her No1 debut album Sour.
The Good 4 U hitmaker will put out first single Vampire on Friday and said the accompanying record is called Guts and will be released on September 8.
The singer said: “This album is about growing pains and trying to figure out who I am at this point in my life.
“I feel like I grew ten years between the ages of 18 and 20, it was such an intense period of awkwardness and change.
“I think that’s all just a natural part of growth, and hopefully the album reflects that.”
DON’T STOP MOVIN’, BRAD
S CLUB 7’s Bradley McIntosh has found out the hard way that breakdancing in his forties isn’t easy.
The Don’t Stop Movin’ singer has said that while rehearsals for the group’s upcoming reunion tour this autumn are going well, his knees are finding it difficult to keep up the pace.
He told me: “We are having a great time together getting back into it.
“I’ve already figured out that my knees don’t work the same.
“I tried to do some breakdancing moves and my knee kind of gave way. It is great, though. We are putting it together now.”
The dad-of-one, who has teamed up with Hasbro to promote its new Transformers toy range, says he can’t wait for his five-year-old son Kairo to see him on stage.
He added: “He loves rapping and he always comes to the studio at home. He calls himself Glitchy.”
The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.
Loved-up Noah so engaging
NOAH Cyrus has revealed she is engaged to her German boyfriend, two months after going public with the romance.
The Grammy-nominated singer gushed about her clothing designer fiance Pinkus in a post revealing the news on Instagram.
She wrote: “The greatest moment of my entire life was saying ‘yes’ to spending the rest of ours together.
“I never thought I would ever meet a man like you or someone so selfless and filled with so much love to give.
“I now know the feeling of for ever not being long enough. I’m so excited to spend this life with you, our life so far is a life I never thought I deserved or would live.”
Her parents, country singer Billy Ray and Tish Cyrus have also got engaged to other people within the past year.
Looks like Noah’s pop star big sister Miley has a lot of hats to buy.
DAZZLE ‘EM AWAY, LEIGH
LEIGH-ANNE Pinnock was dripping in sparkles in this statement dress at the BET Awards in Los Angeles.
But something that might take the shine off her gown is the success of her solo single.
Don’t Say Love went to No11 on Friday following its release the previous week but according to chart data yesterday, the debut track has already dropped to No49.
The Little Mix star has also fuelled confusion over her friendship with her former bandmate Perrie Edwards.
She has referred to Perrie and Jade Thirlwall as her “sisters” but admitted she hasn’t met up with Perrie for months, as her pal missed her hen do and wedding.
Referring to Jade on The Face podcast, Leigh-Anne said: “I was so scared to play it to her. She loves it.
“And then obviously Pez (Perrie). I hadn’t actually seen Pez, so I hadn’t played anything to her.”
Those two will be hoping their solo efforts fare better.
