Gavin and Stacey fans stunned as legend appears unrecognisable on The Voice Kids
GAVIN and Stacey’s ‘Neil the Baby’ left viewers shocked after he took to the stage on The Voice Kids.
Oscar Hartland came to fame as Ruth Jone’s character Nessa Jenkin’s son when he was a newborn 14 years ago.
But now he’s all grown up and appears to be a star in his own right after he auditioned in front of Will.i.am, Ronan Keating, Danny Jones and Pixie Lott.
He showed off his rock vocals by singing Foo Fighters’ Hero, which he has honed as frontman of his own band .
The judges headbanged as they watched Oscar command the stage before Danny was the first to hit his buzzer.
Pixie and Ronan also both hit their buzzers at the last moment before all of the judges quizzed Oscar over his music.
“I only discovered that I could sing about two years ago. I played the guitar since I was like seven.
“I’m not like, Slash, but decent,” he laughed.
Danny asked if he did anything else outside the band, and he said: “Yeah I used to do acting, I was in a TV show not so long ago.”
After Pixie asked him what show he was in, he said: “It was called Gavin and Stacey, yeah, I was Neil the Baby.”
The audience cheered and the judges were clearly very impressed by the show’s legend appearing on the show.
Rylan jumped straight on Twitter and wrote: “NEIL THE BABY IS ON THE VOICE KIDS ALERT”.
“OMG!!!! Neil the baby of #GavinAndStacey,” one fan wrote with a clapping hand emoji.
“I have high hopes for Neil the baby!” another added, while a second also joked: “Oh what’s occurring. I won’t lie to you Neil the baby was tidy”.
Referencing Nessa’s catchphrase, a third wrote: “Oh, Neil the baby is on the voice kids”.
“oh my god neil the baby from gavin and stacey on the voice kids singing foo fighters my hero which is also a song which paramore covered,” chimed a fourth.
“Neil the baby being on wtf I feel old,” another added.
Oscar returned to Gavin and Stacey in the 2019 Christmas Special when he was 10 and has since turned his attention to music.
He told The Sun: “It was weird being on the studio stage without the band, but I thought I’d just do what I do with the boys and hopefully get a result out of it.
“I went into it wanting Danny to turn, or Ronan. But it was really something.”
Speaking about how his life had changed since returning to Gavin and Stacey, he said: “I grew up knowing I was Neil The Baby, but it was after the Christmas special (when he was 10) that my life literally turned around.
“I went from a kid that was in a show when he was a baby to a kid in a TV – even going into the supermarket was mad.”
He chose McFly’s Danny to be his coach, which Danny was clearly thrilled by.
Before his audition, his mum revealed she had a surprise from Ruth on a video call.
Stepping into character, Ruth said: “Oh, Neil the Baby, what’s occurring? We knows what’s occurring you’re on The Voice Kids, don’t forgets you takes after your mother when it comes to music, go out there and you smash it kid. Cracking.”
“That’s wicked,” Oscar said beaming. “That’s psyched me up now, I’m ready to hit that stage.”
