THE actor behind Britain's Got Talent's creepy Witch character has spoken out after being unmasked.

The act's identity had successfully been kept a secret for 15 months, after terrifying Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and David Walliams last year.

He burst onto the BGT stage, stomping down the steps to each of the judges in turn and handing out apples - one of which exploded in a shower of cockroaches and mealworms.

While theories included co-host Stephen Mulhern being behind the prosthetics, as well as Ian Bartholomew, Mark GatissKeith Lemon and even Ant or Dec, actor Martin Portlock was outed this morning.

50-year-old Marc Spellman - a master illusionist who previously made two appearances on Britain's Got Talent - took to his official YouTube account to reveal the identity of The Witch.

Martin has since responded, addressing fans in a video posted to his own Instagram page.

He said, "Hi Marc, how are doing Spellman? Although the Witch was a bit of an unusual character and no-one knew who it was, I hear that everyone thought it was you!

"I hope you and the family are well. I'm outside in the beautiful heat. It's a bit too hot for my liking."

Breaking into character with a black-and-white filter, he concluded in his persona's eerie voice, "I prefer it cold."

Marc previously explained his reasoning for dropping the bombshell, claiming he wanted his friend to get the recognition for his spellbinding performance.

He said: "It is an incredible actor called Martin Portlock. He was sworn to secrecy too, he couldn't tell anybody that he was The Witch.

"I really think Martin deserves huge credit and recognition for being such an iconic character as the witch on Britain's Got Talent.

"A character that we will never forget and I don't think Amanda will ever forget either."

He jokingly added: "Apparently she's still in therapy."

The Heart Breakfast presenter certainly pulled the short straw during The Witch's time on the show, as she was left petrified.

He held her wrist in one hand and a gnarled stick in the other, cackling: "Do you know why they say beauty's only skin deep? Because we're all rotten to the core."

The act later made a comeback for the one-off special Britain's Got Talent: The Ultimate Magician.
