Dan Walker hits back after being branded a hypocrite for climate change report – and it doesn’t go down well
DAN Walker has hit back at fans after they branded him a hypocrite for a climate change report.
Dan, 46, recently headed to Benidorm in Spain to report on climate change for Channel 5.
But after sharing a picture of him in front of the cameras next to a beach in the sunshine, one Twitter user replied: “Great report Dan, did you add to global warming by flying there with a crew? #responsibility.”
Dan responded by sharing a picture of the carbon offset certificate issued to ITN, who produces Channel 5 News.
He wrote alongside it: “Actually… we paid to offset all the carbon from our flight so there will be a few trees planted after that. Thanks for asking [heart emoji].”
But another viewer replied: “Sorry Dan but that is a poor response ‘as we have bought and planted some trees to offset our carbon footprint, it OK to fly’ that is making travel elitists.”
Not backing down, Dan responded: “Hi Steve, Can I ask what you would have us do because I’m pretty sure people would moan whatever we did? Have a good one.”
The Twitter user was having none of it and replied: “Done the interview at a UK airport asking what people returning thought about climate change and would it make them consider their options going forward, and you too have a good one.”
They added in a final dig: “Oh, and still plant the trees” alongside crying with laughter emojis.
Meanwhile, Dan recently revealed the life changing impact his horror bike crash has had on him.
Dan was hit by a car at a busy roundabout back in February and later revealed his helmet saved his life.
Speaking about the aftermath, he said: “I landed on my right hip really, really heavily and I jolted my back a bit, so I’ve got nerve damage down the right side of my body.”
He continued to tell the Express: “Every time I get out of a car, it takes me about two minutes to get my legs kicking into gear.”
