Beloved broadcaster makes epic return to screens today on new BBC show 10 years on from partner’s death
LEGENDARY TV star Sarah Greene will be back on screens today after retreating out of the TV spotlight after her husband’s death.
Sarah, 65, looks set to become the new queen of daytime quizzes with her brand new game show, The Finish Lane, with Roman Kemp at 4.30pm on BBC One.
It comes nearly a decade on from Sarah stepping back from the glitz and glam of TV following the incredibly sad passing of her beloved husband, Mike Smith.
Mike ran his own aerial filming firm and Sarah took over the helping of running the day-to-day operations.
The TV icon made a name for herself as one of the most in-demand broadcasters of the 80s and 90s.
Among her biggest roles were Blue Peter and Saturday Superstore.
The star also famously worked alongside ex-TV regular Phillip Schofield before he broke into This Morning.
Mike also enjoyed a career in broadcasting as a BBC Radio 1 DJ and an acclaimed role on Top Of The Pops.
His death came following complications relating to heart surgery at the age of 59.
Having taken to time to focus on his business, Sarah seldom appeared on TV apart from a one-off guest hosting week on This Morning where she reunited with ex-colleague Phillip and hosted alongside Rylan Clark.
Speaking about stepping away from the industry, Sarah told the : “Offers of TV came in but for a long time I was trying to learn this new business but also feeling too raw.
“Only time can help that, you know when you feel ready when you have that energy.”
Now the star has teamed up with Capital FM star Roman for her brand new BBC game show.
The Finish Line will welcome five contenders each episode to battle it out in a race for a cash prize.
Across a series of rounds, they will ensure they are not last in order to still be in with a chance of bagging the money.
Knowledge equals speed so the more you know, the further you go.
Roman, 30, said: “I’m so excited to be hosting The Finish Line, coming to BBC One this summer.
“I’m a huge fan of quiz shows and with this being my first time hosting one, I really can’t wait for people to see it.
“I love that it’s a brand-new format but based on an iconic horse-racing fairground game. The show is challenging and unpredictable; we know that viewers will be hooked!”
Sarah, 65, added: “I’m absolutely thrilled that people can watch The Finish Line soon.
“It’s quickfire, nail-biting and utterly compelling. AND I get to keep cheeky Roman Kemp and our fabulous contestants on their toes!”
The show has been produced by Potato, which is the same production company behind The Chase, Sitting On A Fortune and Moneyball.
The Finish Line was filmed in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and consists of 25 episodes.
