A CONTESTANT on Channel 4 survival show Alone has opened up about the huge mistake they made that forced them to quit.
Alone sees 11 members of the public dumped in the Canadian wilderness to see how long they can survive on their own.
The participants were given 10 survival items and each person had to fend for themselves and survive for as long as possible whilst filming their own adventure.
The rules of Alone are simple but uncompromising: the last person standing wins £100,000.
One participant was Laura Try from Lincolnshire, who had taken on several endurance challenges in recent years and felt the show would be "the culmination of everything” she wanted to try.
However, it didn't pan out as she had hoped, and she "tapped out" in episode two on the eighth day.

Speaking to , Laura said: “Probably within the first 48 hours, I realised that maybe what I'd expected wasn’t the reality.
"It became apparent to me quite quickly how hard it was going to be. I always knew that it was going to be hard.
"I always knew that things were going to take a lot of time, and a lot of energy, but the reality of actually doing it, and being there completely alone in the elements, just so far away from anybody.
"I think it was almost this deep down, internal realisation, deep within me or myself just kind of said, ‘Okay, this is tougher than we thought'.”

Laura had attempted to fish just like her competitors, but didn't have any luck and went days without eating.
It all added to the fact that ultimately, she wasn't enjoying the experience like she thought she would.
She continued: “Something inside of me said, ‘this isn't right’.
"I woke up the next day, I just knew that it probably wasn't the right place for me to be, because also I wasn't enjoying it. I wasn't appreciating everything that it had for me."
If she was to have her time on the show again, Laura would approach things very differently.
She said: "I think I was a bit gung-ho. I think I wanted everything done quick.
"What I probably hadn't planned and thought about was the fact that because my body wasn't getting everything it needed, I couldn't go 100 percent.
"I wanted to get my shelter, or I wanting to go fishing every day. I wanted to get everything right.
"If I was to go back, even if I could have done one thing per day, for example, gone out for two hours, and fished, whether I got fish or not, I would have counted that as a success.

"Then the next day, build half of a shelter and not then try and do everything at once."
