Coronation Street star Maureen Lipman, 77, reveals plans to go public with new man two years after her partner’s death

CORONATION Street favourite Dame Maureen Lipman has revealed plans to go public with her new man two years after her partner's death.

The actress has shared that she will have a new man on her arm as she attends the National Television Awards next week.

Dame Maureen, who is nominated in the best serial drama performance category for her role as Evelyn Plummer in the ITV soap, said she'll be bringing her new partner David to the awards.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with the, she said it's a "gift to have a relationship again".

The 77-year-old said: “I’m going with my gentleman friend David – it’s a baptism of fire for him. The most important thing is that I find a dress.”

Dame Maureen was married to playwright Jack Rosenthal until his death in 2004.

Rosenthal wrote early episodes of Corrie from 1973 up until his death.

They had two children together, Amy and Adam.

She then had a 13-year relationship with computer expert Guido Castro, who died at the age of 84 in 2021 after contracting Covid.

He also suffered from Parkinson’s Disease.

The Corrie legend said of finding romance again: “It’s a gift for all concerned. It’s a gift and he’s been very nice.

"I’ve met some nice men in my life, some really interesting men, and we will see where it goes.”

Dame Maureen and her co-star Charlotte Jordan, who plays Daisy Midgeley, are both competing in the same category at the NTAs. 

Joking about how she will react if she doesn't win she said: "It's time for a new face really, isn't it?

"I'm a good enough actress to put on a brave face when someone else's name is called."

The stage and screen star has been a firm favourite on Corrie since she joined in 2018.

Before that, she had TV appearances on Jonathan Creek, Skins, Casualty, Holby City and the ITV3 series Ladies of Letters.
