Inside EastEnders’ abandoned BBC set as iconic Queen Vic demolished after 38 years to make way for housing

HAUNTING pictures show the old EastEnders set before it was bulldozed to be redeveloped.

The iconic set, at the BBC Elstree Studios in Borehamwood, had been home to EastEnders for 37 years.

However, in January 2022, Beeb bosses began filming at their brand new location - a stone's throw away from the old lot.

With the show's cast now shooting their dramatic scenes from the flashy new studios, the original had fallen into disrepair.

Pictures before its demolition show the iconic Queen Victoria pub, once managed by cockney matriarch Peggy Mitchell, abandoned.

Another snap shows the famous Minute Mart newsagents lying idle with its striking green facade.

Kathy Beale's cafe can also be seen empty, although fully stocked with drinks and pastries.

The Slater household looks to be frozen in time as Stacey's son Arthur's toys lie on the sofa and floor.

EastEnders fans would have had plenty of memorabilia with most of the soap's abandoned sets still dressed.

However, the entire studio was demolished to make way for a new housing scheme that's due to be built on the land soon.

In 2016 the set was deemed no longer fit for purpose, which resulted in the Beeb splashing out £87million on the new abode.

It means producers can now shoot episodes in high definition

Recent snaps showed the iconic location was reduced to rubble after the bulldozers had left.
