Can you work out this 'impossible question'?

It sees two teams compete against each other in a tournament of finding connections between seemingly unrelated clues.

Only Connect's questions will cover any topic, and many may require knowledge of both arcane subject areas and popular culture.

When presented with the clues, contestants are not told the type of the connection, and as such part of the gameplay involves establishing whether the connection is thematic, linguistic, factual or mathematical.

There are four separate rounds in each episode, with the questions changing in difficulty.

They get 40 seconds in the first round to find out the relationship between four words or phrases.

The sets of clues change into sequences in round two.

The fourth word or phrase in the sequence must be identified by teams using the sets of hints they have already been given.

The third round is where things get challenging, with the teams having to work their way through a "connecting wall" of 16 words or phrases, each made up of four sets of four connecting words or phrases.

The fourth and final round is called missing vowels, where the contestants are given a category.

The answer is then given below, but with all the vowels missing - so it's just a long series of consonants.

Spaces are sometimes added between the consonants, but they don't necessarily mean the start of a new word or the position of a vowel.

Let's see if you can solve this question...

A query posed in round four of season 12 episode 37 (Verbivores vs. Cosmopolitans).

The contestant's category was "five words in alphabetical order" and from there, things became even more difficult.

The clues were: BGB GBGB GBG / PTTN GPTT NGPT TNGPT TNGP TTNG / MSS SMS SSM SS SMS SSM SSS and LS TL ST LST LS TL ST.

The answers are: BAG BEG BIG BOG BUG / PATTING PETTING PITTING POTTING PUTTING / MASSES MESSES MISSES MOSSES MUSSES and LAST LEST LIST LOST LUST.

Did you end up working it out? Well if you did then you are a genius.
