The actress, 65, dropped the exciting news and revealed a “serious first draft” of the reboot will be ready by the end of the year.

Jennifer, who plays the role of PR mogul Edina Monsoon, also starred in the comedy alongside Joanna Lumley who portrays fashion director Patsy Stone.

Revealing more to her pal Dawn French on her podcast Titting About, Saunders said: “I need to write a film or a series based on Ab Fab, because everyone wants another Ab Fab movie."

But she added: “I can’t do that, I just don’t have a thing. I want to do something related.”

While she was reluctant to reveal anymore details, comedian Dawn pushed her on whether Joanna, 77, would be back.

She replied: “Possibly, including some Ab Fab-ness, but not totally Ab Fab.”

Absolutely Fabulous first aired back in 1992 on the BBC and ran for a total of six series before ending in 2003.

It returned to the big screen with Jennifer and Joanna reprising their roles for a movie in 2016.

It featured a long list of famous faces including Rebel Wilson, Alesha Dixon, Rylan Clark, Kathy Burke, Joan Collins and the late Barry Humphries.

Joanna previously said a remake of Absolutely Fabulous wouldn't work in today's world.

She told TalkTV: “No. Because this started in 1991, and the world’s changed so much since then.

"I mean, you wouldn't be able to smoke, you wouldn't be able to drink, you wouldn't be able to snort coke.

"I mean it was high satire on revolting people and it was just dreadfully funny and the wicked things  could say about people and the ghastly behaviour of Patsy - wouldn’t be allowed to do it now."
