The Dingles always put family first - but will it backfire on Sam?

LYDIA Dingle tearfully revealed to her family that she had been raped by former childhood sweetheart Craig Reed.

ITV viewers suspected Sam Dingle (played by James Hooton) would be taking action after finding out his beloved wife Lydia (Karen Blick) was raped by Craig Reed (Ben Addis).

Lydia and Craig share a heavy history together and rekindled a bond upon his initial arrival in the eponymous village.

However, after some friendly moments, it became clear Craig was wanting more from a married Lydia.

Caught up in the chemistry, Lydia knew it was time she needed to let Craig down gently after they nearly kissed.

But in heart-breaking scenes, Craig didn't take "no" for an answer and raped Lydia, leaving her a shell of her former self.

In scenes airing next week, things take a murderous turn when Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle) finds Craig's lifeless and bloodied body on the Home Farm estate, where Lydia works.

For the cleaner, it becomes clear that this was not the work of a new killer in the Dales but one of her loved ones' attempt at avenging her.

In the Woolpack, she gathers up the Dingles to get the answers she seeks and everyone is shocked when Lydia announces that Craig is dead.

The Dingles start to ponder what could have happened to Craig, but, as mentioned above, Lydia is steadfast and sure one of them is responsible for his death.

In the knowledge Sam and Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) had Craig tied up in a remote barn, Lydia begins her investigation by focusing on their whereabouts.

After listening to their story, given to viewers through a series of flashbacks, Lydia’s search to find out who killed Craig is underway.

However, Sam and Cain are not the only suspects.

Belle Dingle’s (Eden Taylor-Draper) caught out when the room shifts their focus to her alibi.

In another handful of flashback scenes we see Belle recount her day with Tom King (James Chase), who after a romantic meal proposed to Belle - but she's not giving a full account of her day.

Lydia then shifts her focus onto the next suspect, the recently returned Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller), whose cold and inconsiderate behaviour has thrown his own family off.

Aaron fights back when the Dingles press him for his alibi and Charity (Emma Atkins) is uneasy when he shifts the focus on to her instead.

Flashing back to the previous day, Chas (Lucy Pargeter) and Charity discuss the Craig situation.

Soon enough, Caleb Milligan (Will Ash) and Nate Robinson (Jurell Carter) offer their account of the day when it’s their turn to reveal all.

In flashback scenes we see what really happened but what is Caleb hiding?

Next, Mandy (Lisa Riley) and Marlon (Mark Charnock) are thrust into the hot seat.

Emotional Mandy is hiding a secret, but just what is she keeping back from her family?

Marlon talks through his day as we flashback to what really happened but he, much like other members of the Dingle clan, chooses to miss out on big piece of his day.

Despite everyone's alibi being established, Lydia remains troubled that someone is being deceitful.

This prompts a guilt-ridden Sam to let her know there's more to his version of events.

What will he reveal?
