MP Robert Jenrick was appearing on the show and Sally wasted no time in hitting him with a series of tough questions.

The discussion related to the decision to close migrant hotels and Sally was keen to take Robert to task to find out about the impact of the decision.

Sally locked horns with the politician over costs of the hotels as he appeared to flounder with the questions and whether plans to move them elsewhere would actually be saving any money or just creating a further cost.

He went onto tell her: "It is good value for money."

As she continued to grill him on what would happen next if the hotels were to close in a few days, the rattled MP said: "I think what you're expecting us to do is put 500 people onto a boat on day one, which is not a sensible thing to do."

But Sally hit back as she reminded him that it was "not day one", adding:  "Just going to correct you for the moment, it was actually given the all-clear a month ago."

Her interviewing style led to praise online as fans rushed to support the star during the trying conversation.

One fan said: "Blimey, Sally Nugent giving Jenrick a good grilling."

Another then added:  "He can't accept this obvious truth and starts sweating. Well done Sally."

As a third went onto brand Robert's interview a "car crash", writing: "And not content with his car crash statement in Parliament yesterday, Robert Jenrick has just had a car crash interview."

Sally did not have the support of her regular co-star Jon Kay as he remained absent from the show.

The duo usually host together between Mondays and Wednesdays.

Instead Jon was replaced by regular stand-in Ben Thompson who fronted today's proceedings with Sally.

BBC Breakfast is no stranger to a hosting shake-up and regularly brings in stars from across the network to help cover.
