Producers hope Farage will grab the same number of headlines as disgraced former Health Secretary Matt Hancock - last year's stand-out contestant.

A TV insider said: “Nigel has been at the top of the wish-list for I’m A Celeb bosses for years.

"They’ve offered him a huge fee as they know he’ll drive up viewing figures. Ant and Dec will love this signing.

“Nigel’s the ultimate Marmite character and won’t hold back in camp discussions.

"It’s a real coup. The casting team has nailed it. It’s shaping up to be a brilliant series."

But some fans have slammed I'm a Celeb for signing up Farage, who will appear alongside the likes of Tony Bellew, Fred Sirieix and Frankie Dettori.

One said: "First time for years, I won’t be watching I’m A Celeb. Matt Hancock was enough. Farage is too much."

Another said: "Farage heading to the I’m A Celeb jungle. I vote we just leave him in there."

A third said: "Odds on Bellew and Farage having a TV show or podcast together after I’m a Celeb?"

A fourth said: "Quite funny of ITV to offer Nigel Farage so much money to appear on I’m a Celeb, safe in the knowledge he doesn’t have an account with which to accept the bank transfer."

Here is the I'm a Celeb official 2023 line-up in full - as Farage heads into the jungle with This Morning and MasterChef stars.
