GOOD Morning Britain viewers slammed government minister Richard Holden after his 'car crash' interview on today's show.

Fresh from being appointed Conservative Party chairman, Holden was held over the coals as hosts Ed Balls and Susanna Reid grilled him over David Cameron's return to government.

The former prime minister, who many blame for the years of Brexit wrangling, is now foreign secretary after James Cleverly was promoted to home secretary following Rishi Sunak's dismissal of Suella Braverman.

Controversially, Cameron has accepted a peerage to take on the post as he is not currently a serving MP.

During his interview, evasive Holden repeatedly failed to answer questions, instead cherry-picking unrelated issues from educational reform to structural deficit and military support for Ukraine, leaving hosts baffled.

Flummoxed Susanna said: "I'm glad you understand it, Ed, because I don't.

Later, an exasperated Ed said: "Mr Holden, I'm trying to talk you up here as a straight-talker. I need you to give shorter answers that are a bit straighter."

When he then suggested Holden's strategy was to cover every basis in the hope something would stick, the MP replied: "No, that's not the case, I'm answering fully all the questions you're putting to me when you give me the chance to answer them."

The former Shadow Chancellor was stunned into silence by the end of the interview as members of the GMB crew giggled out of shot.

Ed then joked that Holden will "grow into the role" in an apparent swipe at his unsuitability for his new position.

Viewers were equally as shocked.

One posted on X: "Just saw Richard Holden have a car crash interview on GMB, talk about scraping the barrel."

A second wrote: "He came with a speech and was going to deliver it no matter what, there were questions? He’s either hard of hearing or decided he wasn’t going to answer any."

Another said: "Car crash, another pointless minister….... @Conservatives why is it not possible for ministers to answer a question? I can’t be bothered with the ‘set speech’ they’re obv. issued with beforehand and have to spit out."

A fourth commented: "Seriously what question was he actually answering? Labour hasn’t been in power for 13 years. I’d have gone to a break he’d have still been talking about something irrelevant!"

However, others backed Holden and his assessment that he wasn't given a chance to answer properly.

One posted: "Balls is out of control, getting ruder every day."

A second said: "Some answers have more than two words Ed. How about letting him finish?"
