After years of struggle, Dawn Fletcher has managed to get her act together, dedicating her time to her family and job as a receptionist in the local vet's surgery.

However, as she prepares to welcome a second child, the first from her marriage with Billy (portrayed by Jay Kontzle), Dawn fears her demons may come back with a vengeance as she's been told she may require pain medication.

Adamant on staying on the straight and narrow, Dawn makes a big decision about the birth of her unborn baby in scenes airing next week on ITV.

It all begins when Dawn and Billy feel a bit quashed by Kim Tate (Claire King) over their decoration ideas for the nursery.

But when Dawn asks her to be her birthing partner, as she plans to give birth in Home Farm, Kim is delighted.

Meanwhile, Billy isn't as convinced his wife's plan for a home birth is the best option - but will he say anything about the decision?

In later scenes, Dawn goes to work but Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry) soon witness her pregnancy pains and rushes to get doctor Liam Cavanagh's help.

Could it send Dawn spiralling as she desperately tries to avoid medication?

Following her troubled beginnings, Dawn has become a present mother for her son Lucas, whom she fought to have custody of, and even adopted his half-sister Clemmie Reed.

And while she's expected to give birth to a third child in upcoming weeks, fans theorised she could be pregnant with twins when she attended an emergency scan with Billy in the summer.

During the scan, the medical staff member said: "they're doing fine."

This was enough for viewers of the Yorkshire-based drama to believe that Dawn could be pregnant with twins.

Another handful of viewers simply argued that the nurse could have used "they" as a neutral pronoun as the baby's gender is unknown.

But could Dawn get a surprise?

Emmerdale airs weeknights from 7.30pm on ITV.
