He confirmed he’ll be the UK’s official Eurovision entry for 2024 after walking out of a golden doorframe to read the small print about voting in the dance competition.

Claudia then said to the 33-year-old from Harrogate, North Yorkshire: “Now Olly, you have some news for us, and, if it’s alright with you, could we have a drum roll please?”

The drums rolled and he replied: “I do Claudia, I can exclusively reveal I will be representing the UK at the Eurovision Song Contest.”

He added: “What can I tell you? I’m planning it now, it’s going to be spectacular – I love Eurovision so, so, so much, I’m so excited, it’s going to be great.”

Strictly fans, who had watched Bobby Brazier, Ellie Leach and Layton Williams compete for the Glitter Ball Trophy, reacted on social media.

One tweeted: “Superb Strictly final. Thank you to all the celebs and pros! Well done to the brilliant winners! And Olly Alexander for Eurovision too!”

Another raved: “This news was the perfect way to end strictly. So excited by this! Can’t wait to hear the song! Come on Olly!”

And one more echoed: “Layton and Nikita’s mind blowing final dance immediately followed up at Olly Alexander’s Eurovision announcement. This is why I pay the license fee.”

The Sun recently revealed Olly has already pitched an upbeat pop track to execs that has been put together by Dua Lipa’s super-producer Danny L Harle.

Danny is the mastermind behind Dua’s latest hit Houdini.

He is also said to have acted as executive producer on her third studio album, set for release next year.

Olly will follow in the footsteps of TikTok sensation turned pop star Sam Ryder who came second on Eurovision last year.

However Mae Muller struggles to impress at this year’s competition in Liverpool.
