CORONATION Street fans are stunned after Peter Barlow’s exit storyline was finally revealed in the Christmas Day episode.
The taxi driver - who is played by actor Chris Gascoyne in the ITV soap - has been struggling to cope in Weatherfield after killing serial killer Stephen Reid.
Peter has been desperate to escape from the memories of what he did and was offered the chance to join an old pal on an around-the-world sailing adventure.
However Peter turned it down because he knew Carla wouldn’t be able to join him.
He is set to leave the cobbles tomorrow night but until now the reasons for his leaving hadn’t been revealed.
But that all changed tonight when Peter’s wife Carla handed over his Christmas present.

“It better not be a book token after all this build up,” said Peter jokingly.
“A plane ticket? One way?”
Carla told him: “To join your mate’s crew. It’s a present for you. I’m not coming lovey.”
Peter looked stunned by the gift - and fans joined him.
