VERA fans have been left raging, 'it haunts my dreams' as they slammed the show's first ever Christmas special episode.
Brenda Blethyn was back as DCI Vera Stanhope for the Christmas special episode titled The Rising Tide and set in the tranquil Holy Island.
Teaming up with sidekick DS Aidan Healy, played by Kenny Doughty, in his last appearance on the show, she tackled a complex case involving the mysterious death of a famous TV presenter.
As the investigation began, it became evident that there were questionable circumstances surrounding what was initially believed to be a suicide.
Sharp-eyed Vera quickly noticed signs that something fishy was going on, and it didn't take long for her theory to be proven right.
But viewers weren't impressed with the Christmas episode, as many took to X/Twitter to slam Vera's 'Geordie accent'.
