Carol confirmed her engagement at the Chelsea Flower Show last year

Soon after, pictures from their special day were released, with Carol looking stunning in an off the shoulder wedding gown with a full skirt and train.

She had her hair styled in loose curls and carried a bouquet of cream flowers.

Meanwhile new husband Steve, 48, looked dapper in traditional morning suit which featured a tails jacket and grey waistcoat.

Chatting to Naga Munchetty on BBC Breakfast this morning, Carol said: “It was the most perfect and romantic and intimate wedding.

“We are both so incredibly happy.”

Unsurprisingly, Carol was absent from the show this morning with Naga and her co-host Charlie Stayt saying she was taking a well-earned rest.

BBC Weather also shared some photos from the big day saying: “A huge congratulations to our friend and colleague Carol Kirkwood on her wedding to Steve.

“Best wishes from us all!”

Carol met Steve, a divorced policeman, when she was in her 50s and she revealed the pair were engaged while reporting from Chelsea Flower Show in May last year.

Her BBC Breakfast costars have been congratulating her including former co-star Dan Walker who posted a sweet message to his Instagram.

He said: “Congratulations to Carol and Steve.

“Steve is one very fortunate gentleman and Carol is the best of us all.

“She is kind, caring, brilliant at her job and a wonderful person to be around.

“I wish them every happiness in their new life together.”

BBC Breakfast airs daily from 6am on BBC One.
