SILENT Witness fans were left with goosebumps minutes into watching as the chilling new series made a '10/10' return.

The crime drama which has had viewers gripped for more than 25 years, and currently stars Emilia Fox and David Caves - came back with it's 27th season, Monday night.

Fans watched Dr Nikki and Jack Hodgson try to solve another brutal murder case.

The episode began with a man called Calvin Dunn (Leo Staar) was interviewed by police over a crime they believed he committed in 2004.

As he was questioned about a death, the man remained eerily composed, coolly answering each inquiry with a chilling gaze.

The episode then jumps to the present day, where another murder occurs, closely resembling the events from 20 years ago.

Viewers quickly flocked to X/Twitter to share their reactions to the gripping opening scenes, with many getting 'goosebumps' within minutes.

One wrote: "I have goosebumps. From this show. Hasn't happened in at least a decade."

A second added: "Best acting we’ve seen in years of Silent Witness. Chilling."

A third added: "Wow I literally have goosebumps from watching this episode!"

A fourth exclaimed: "That was a 10/10 introduction oh my goodness.”

A fifth wrote: "Good stuff about Silent Witness being back - and we are off to a weird start.”

We revealed back in July that a number of changes have been made to the set for the new series.

Executive Producer Jayne Chard revealed they had gone with a "different vision" for the show's aesthetic.

She felt The Lyle had looked "inconsistent" and so the colour of the walls and corridors have been changed to rectify that.
