A Place in the Sun viewers rip into ‘hideous eyesore’ renovations as couple’s home makeover seriously backfires
A PLACE in the Sun viewers have ripped into renovations one couple made to their home in France, calling it a 'hideous eyesore' after the changes.
To celebrate 23 years on air the Channel 4 series has done a spin off show - 'What Happened Next?' - where their presenters go back and visit guests they found houses for in warmer climes.
Danni Menzies met up with Jill and Paul in Brittany to check in on how they have been since the move.
She was the one to help them find the property they are living in now when they wanted to start a new stage of life six years ago.
The couple were absolutely delighted with the place and have been using their large garden to grow grapes for vinegar and keep hens.
But viewers were left appalled when they showed off their transformed living room.

The space used to be an open plan dining area complete with a feature wall made of stone that was home to a little stove and some kindling.
Jill explained that they had painted the walls blue and brought in their own sofas and bookshelves to turn the space into a living room.
Viewers hated the update, and flocked to social media to share that they preferred what the property looked like before Jill and Paul moved in.
One person hit out: "Bloody hell, it looked better before."

Another agreed: "They’ve managed to make a right f**k up of that."
A third moaned: "God that living room looks worse than before."
And a fourth joked: "Took them years to make it ten times worse…"
Someone else branded it a "hideous eyesore".
