Huge Disney+ series bags its first feature film – ending legendary franchise’s six-year dry spell

Star Wars bosses have confirmed that a fourth season of Disney+'s The Mandalorian is in development - alongside a feature film.

THE Mandalorian and Grogu are embarking on their first-ever Star Wars film, which will be going into production later this year.

Creator of the three Disney+ The Mandalorian series, Jon Favreau, will be directing and producing the upcoming movie.

Fan favourite bounty hunter Mandolrian and “baby Yoda” will be hitting the big screens in the first Star Wars film to be dropped six years after Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker was released in 2019. 

Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy and Dave Filoni will work alongside Jon as co-producers of the upcoming film. 

Speaking about , Jon said: “I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created.

“The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting.”

Kathleen added: “Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have ushered into Star Wars two new and beloved characters, and this new story is a perfect fit for the big screen.”

Star Wars bosses have revealed that the new film will be led by Lucasfilm’s “feature-development slate”.

As well as the new film, it has also been announced that the second series of Ahsoka is also in production. 

Mandalorian Din Djarin, portrayed by Pedro Pascal and the child, known then as Grogu, was first introduced on-screen in 2019 after the first season of the hit show The Mandalorian aired. 

Since the first series aired on November 12, 2019, the duo have starred in three successful seasons.

The second series followed on October 30, 2020, with the third season premiering in March last year.  

Disney+ and Star Wars bosses confirmed that a  fourth season is in development. 

The upcoming feature film will be titled The Mandalorian & Grogu, but more details have yet to be released. Star Wars bosses have confirmed that the film is currently in the development stages. 

Last month, Disney sued a car wash in Chile for naming their business Star Wars.

The row unleashed when Matias tried to register his little car wash service in Santiago with a patent authority.

But in the process, he received the shocking news that the film production company behind the Star Wars saga was suing him for plagiarism.
