ACTRESS Marisa Abela transforms into Amy Winehouse in the first scenes released from the tragic star’s biopic.

The 27-year-old is seen singing on stage in a trailer for the movie Back To Black, out in April, while Jack O’Connell, 33, plays Amy’s ex-husband Blake Fielder-Civil.

However, some fans said it was distasteful not to use the original vocals.

One said of Amy, who died in 2011 at 27: “Keep her memory alive, but don’t dub her.”

But those close to the Winehouse family, and in particular Janis, said they were keen to see how the director, Sam Taylor-Johnson, was telling Amy’s story.

Production for the film began on January 16 2023.

Its director, Sam, has previously headed up Nowhere Boy and 50 Shades of Grey.

Lead Marisa has played troubled Yasmin Kara-Hanani in HBO’s Industry as well as starring in Sky’s COBRA.

Tragic star Amy released her first album, Frank, in 2003.

Its 2006 follow-up, Back to Black, became one of the best-selling albums in UK history.

In 2011, the singer died of alcohol intoxication.

A coroner’s inquest report revealed that Amy’s blood alcohol content was 416mg per 100ml at the time of her death, which is more than five times the legal drink-drive limit.

It was also enough to make her comatose and depress her respiratory system.

The inquest reached a verdict of misadventure.
