Emmy Awards 2024 LIVE — Niecy Nash-Betts speech hailed ‘the BEST’ by fans – and it’s all down to unusual thank you

NIECY Nash-Betts took home an Emmy on Monday and she made sure to thank several people - including herself.

The actress, who portrayed Glenda Cleveland in Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, took home the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie.

"Thank you to the most high for this divine moment," Nash-Betts said in her address. "Thank you Ryan Murphy for seeing me. Evan Peters, I love you. Netflix, every single person who voted for me — thank you. And my better half who picked me up when I was gutted from this work, thank you.

"And you know who I wanna thank? I wanna thank me. For believing in me, and doing what they said I could not do. And I wanna say to myself in front of all you beautiful people: go on, girl, with your bad self. You did that."

"Congratulations to Niecy-Nash Betts on your Emmy award," one fan online. "Your speech was THE best!'

Nash-Betts also took the time to remember and honor the victims of police violence, naming Cleveland, Sandra Bland, and Breonna Taylor.

Other big winners include icon Elton John, who finally achieved EGOT status after winning Outstanding Variety Special (live) at the Emmys.

    Elton John became the 19th person to win an EGOT with his Emmy win tonight.

    “I am incredibly humbled to be joining the unbelievably talented group of EGOT winners tonight,” the legend said.

    “The journey to this moment has been filled with passion, dedication, and the unwavering support of my fans all around the world.

    “Tonight is a testament to the power of the arts and the joy that it brings to all our lives,” he concluded.

    “Thank you to everyone who has supported me throughout my career, I am incredibly grateful.”

    Jesse Armstrong, the mastermind behind this captivating show, was honoured with best writing for a drama series. In his acceptance speech he expressed gratitude towards America's "creative community".

    “I come from the UK and the show is about things that are close to the centre of American life and politics and we’ve always been met with generosity and good faith and that’s part of America’s tradition of being very welcoming to outsiders and it’s very nice,” he said.

  • Matty Matheson gave ‘chaotic’ live Emmys speech

    Matty Matheson was the member of The Bear's crew who gave the acceptance speech, and it started unconventional and informal.

    In the middle of his speech, as he was thanking the restaurant industry, Ebon walked up to him and grabbed his face.

    Ebon proceeded to plant a large and long kiss on Matty - which Matty didn't shy away from.

    After a few seconds of laughter, the producer continued with his speech like nothing had happened.

    By the end of the speech, Ebon attempted to wrangle him in, but Matty still ended up yelling into the microphone several times.

    In addition to producing the show, Matty is a Canadian chef and restaurateur with a clear love of the industry.

    This isn't the first time Paul has won an award this season - he also took home a Golden Globe Award and Critics' Choice Award for his role in the Apple TV miniseries.

    He is married to Amy Elizabeth Boland and has two children.

    The Bear star Ebon Moss-Bachrach, who won best supporting actor in a comedy tonight, revealed Christopher's whereabouts during the show.

    "Chris, sadly, is home sick with Covid," the actor said in the press room after his huge win.

    "I talked to him on the way over. He's not happy that he's having to miss this."

    The Bear won 10 Emmys in total at the 75th Emmy Awards.
