ONLY Connect’s Victoria Coren Mitchell has hit back at a fan after being slammed for ‘robbing’ a team with ‘unfair’ ruling.

Over the years, Only Connect has built up a reputation for being one of the toughest quiz shows on British television.

The show requires a high level of general knowledge and logic skills by challenging teams to make connections between four seemingly random clues.

They also get points if they guess the answer correctly before all the clues have been revealed.

After last night's episode, a viewer was convinced that a team who lost by one point were 'robbed'. They thought the outcome was unfair.

They believed the final buzzer sounded before the bell, and that the team should have been given a chance to answer and possibly tie the game.

They penned on X/Twitter: "The team who lost #onlyconnect by one point tonight were robbed! The last buzzer was before the bell, they should have been asked the question and maybe drawn! The beauty of iplayer is you can watch it back and hear the buzz before the bell!!"

However Victoria who was not having it, quickly hit back: "I never let them answer after the bell, whenever they’ve buzzed! Not the protocol at all."

Some fans also chimed in, commenting on how the rules of the game seem to be more difficult than the questions.

One wrote: "Asking the question becomes rather pointless under those rules."

A second added: "So it's come to this: the rules of the game appear to be more difficult than the questions."

A third penned: "You are right but it seems unfair to not allow an answer under those circumstances."

While some fans disagreed with Victoria, others thought she was right.

One wrote: "Yeah, sausages to ‘em. Should have scored better earlier. Bunch of big thickies."

A second added: "I agree! It's their fault."

In the end, a team called the Also Rans made it to the final with 22 points.
