A CORONATION Street legend has switched channels to join Casualty amid a huge show shake-up.

The actress, 62, was seen posing for a selfie on the BBC set with Kirsty Mitchell, 49, who plays an Advance Clinical Practitioner Faith Cadogan in the long-running series at Holby Hospital.

Melanie Hill, who took on the role of Roy Cropper's love interest Cathy Matthews on the Corrie Cobbles, was seen beaming in the snap in her new job as Casualty's Siobhan Mackenzie, a clinical nurse manager.

We exclusively revealed her huge new telly role back in October - as well as her co-star Kirsty's comeback after a short break away.

Alongside the image, Kirsty gushed on Instagram: "Can't wait for everyone to fall in love with @melaniehillbilly," followed by a series of love heart Emojis.

One fan was quick to gush: "Aww Fab Addition to cast," as a second put: "Brilliant addition to the team."

A third then wrote: "Lovely to see Melanie back on our screens. All good wishes to you Kirsty.";

Previously, ex Corrie star Melanie's new character has been described as a "no-nonsense team leader who looks set to ruffle a few feathers."

Speaking of her new role, she recently told us: "I am delighted to be joining the cast of Casualty and I can’t wait for fans to meet Siobhan.

"She’s a supremely competent manager, who is firm but fair and expects nothing but the best from her nursing team.

"However, get on the wrong side of her and she’ll make mincemeat out of you! I’m sure she’s going to ruffle a few feathers in the Emergency Department.”

Meanwhile, telly veteran Melanie joined Coronation Street back in 2015.

At the time, she described the ITV soap role as a "dream come true," yet she chose to leave following the coronavirus pandemic.

Back in 2022, she quit after a seven-year stint.

Yet her arrival on the Casualty ward comes amid a huge shake-up for the BBC series.

Fans were recently left devastated after Eddie-Joe Robinson, who played Ryan Firth, officially left the BBC show for good.

Meanwhile, the broadcaster confirmed the return of Casualty - and an exact start date - back in December after the drama was off-screen for months.

At the same time, show bosses also poured cold water on claims that Dr Stevie Nash, played by Elinor Lawless, would be leaving.

Casualty is on BBC One on Saturday nights.
