The pair arrived at the pub tonight determined to convince George to help Eddie at his trial.

With Gloria desperately trying to convince Elaine to get George to help his Eddie, downstairs George was demanding the truth from his father.

But Eddie insisted it was just a fight that got out of hand.

Admitting he killed Henry, George told his dad that he witnessed it all - but couldn’t bring himself to report his own dad.

But when Eddie continued to minimise the racism and abuse that he both allowed and encouraged to his own son, George gave him both barrels.

He demanded his dad take responsibility for what he did but Eddie lost it, shouting: “Get your filthy hands off me.”

Realising Eddie would never change, George had enough.

“You didn’t beat that man to death because he was a wrong ‘un, or because he was chatting to some girls, or because he was giving your mates lip,” he thundered.

“You did it because of the colour of his skin, didn’t you? Admit it, dad.”

But as George confronted his dad, Gloria ran downstairs and revealed the awful truth.

She screamed: “George, stop it. Stop it George. It wasn’t your father’s fault, don’t blame him.

“He did it because I love you George and I didn’t want to say goodbye. He did it for me. I couldn’t let you go, it was my fault.”

As Eddie tried to get Gloria out to keep their secret, Gloria said: “He wanted to take you back with them, your father.”

She added: “I have to Eddie, I have to, I’ve carried it long enough. I was so scared I’d lose you, I begged him to do whatever it took. Please forgive us, George. Please forgive us.”

“Henry Kofi Asare was my father?” George said stunned.
