It came as BBC North West reporter Annabel Tiffin was wrapping her show.

Kawser Quamer finished her weather report on Friday then joined Annabel on the show sofa for a natter.

Annabel asked her: "So, what have you got [coming] up at the weekend? Anything exciting?"

Kawser replied: "My niece's surprise birthday party,” without realising that she had just revealed the surprise until her fellow presenter spelled it out.

"Oh that's lovely. But not a surprise if she's watching this," Annabel said.

The weather presenter saw the funny side of the blunder and burst out laughing, before she said: "Oh goodness me, I've spoiled the surprise."

Other BBC staff shared their reactions on social media, with BBC North West presenter Steve Saul commenting “Oh dear” on X while BBC News' creative director Chris Cook wrote: “This is DELIGHTFUL - have a great weekend all xxxx.”

BBC South West journalist Alastair Monk then said: “This is just brilliant. In a time of so much stress, just enjoy.”

Viewers also reacted on X, and one person wrote: “I've watched this multiple times now. It gets funnier every time.”

Another added: “This is why I watch the regional news.”

BBC Breakfast's Nina Warhurst left cringing after mortifying live blunder amid string of presenter shake-ups

The blunder came after BBC Breakfast reporter Carol Kirkwood left telly fans hot under the collar with a "steamy" weather forecast.

A "dreadful" technical blunder also marred the daily news show - with fans left complaining.

During an interview with an eight-year-old and his dad, the sound appeared to drop out frequently as it made it difficult to tell what the guests were saying.
