OVER the last 39 years EastEnders has left fans on the edges of their seats thanks to its jam-packed storylines, jaw-dropping cliffhangers and an array of loveable characters introduced over the years.

While most of the time the BBC soap hits the nail on the head, there have been a few instances when fans have been left in stitches at some rather unfortunate editing blunders.

EastEnders has occasionally fallen foul to an audio faux pas

EastEnders has occasionally fallen foul to a rather obvious editing fail whereby the show has added in extra dialogue not originally captured during the original filming day.

This usually happens when bosses in the editing room realise an extra piece of dialogue is necessary or if there has been an issue with the cast's microphones on the day.

Known as automated dialogue replacement (ADR), the TV magic is often edited in seamlessly but The Sun have compiled a list of when things did not go quite according to plan.

These moments have lived on as viral clips with EastEnders fans having a rather good chuckle at the slip-ups. Here are all the moments ranked...

4. Honey's Tooth Terror

In fourth place is Honey Mitchell and a rather unfortunate moment on-screen that sees her choking on her own tooth.

The moment occurred in 2018 when Billy was trying his best to win back his wife.

He had prepared a romantic meal for the two and had even got a ring to offer up to his long-term love in order for the pair to get back together after a rocky patch.

However, when he was about to present the ring, Honey's face dropped as she appeared to chow down on something extremely hard.

She was soon left panic-ridden as it appeared she had chewed her own tooth.

In a clumsy editing blunder, as Honey held her hands to her mouth, she darted to the bathroom as an extra line of dialogue was clearly added in over the top.

Honey said: "Billy what have you done."

She then let out a comical wail that had evidently been recorded weeks later for the purpose of being used in the episode.

3. Elaine's filth-ridden rant

Just months ago, EastEnders had another unfortunate editing error that saw Harriet Thorpe's character Elaine Peacock branding Karen Taylor "filth" despite never appearing in shot.

While in the Queen Vic, the Walford residents were all reeling to learn that Karen was behind baby Albie's shock kidnapping.

The women of the square could not believe how she had acted, particularly as she was a mother herself.

They each took it in turns to slam Karen as they berated her actions.

However, when it was Elaine's turn to speak, her voice sounded far too clear and dis-jointed from her fellow Walford women.

She said: "Filth! That's what you are! Filth!"

The moment quickly went viral on X - formerly Twitter - with superfans branding it as "iconic" and felt that even though it was a soap faux pas fitted with Elaine's camp nature.

Furthermore, some fans even speculated that Kathy's lines were also added in after filming had wrapped.

One fan said online of the scene: "My personal favourite ADR moment was on the 7th December 2023 which was filled with a big dollop of ADR.

"I think Gillian Taylforth and @harriet_thorpe were enjoying the scene too much and forgot to say their lines."

2. Roxy's speedy tongue

Roxy Mitchell, played by Rita Simons, fell foul to an epic audio mistake during her years on the show.

The resulting clip has had fans in hysterics in the years that followed who have seen the humour in the rather obvious audio dub.

During a conversation with Alfie Moon, bosses felt the need to add in an extra line of dialogue from Roxy as she checked in on her then-partner.

She said to Alfie: "So how are you feeling about tomorrow, are you nervous?"

However, show bosses had limited time to play with as there was just a ONE SECOND window for Roxy's line to fit.

It resulted in Roxy speaking extraordinarily face (or placed on two-times speed, perhaps) in order to whack out the line.

Speaking about the clip, one fan admitted: "I am OBSESSED with terrible ADR in #EastEnders."

1. Kathy's important breakfast

The most memorable audio fail, and arguable the most unnecessary and unavoidable, goes to Kathy Beale.

It came during the height of the Covid pandemic in May 2020 where fans have long-speculated the botched scene was a result of an editing fail whilst working from home.

During an early-morning chat with Ian Beale, Kathy had prepared breakfast for her and her family.

Although her mind appeared to be elsewhere as she was worrying about Ben and his impeding operation after suffering a head injury during the boat crash earlier in the year.

As Ian quizzed her on what was going on with the Mitchell's, Kathy said: "I weren't really there for the full Mitchell bulletin."

As she turned her back on the camera, she spoke again, almost on top of her last sentence.

Speaking down what sounded like a rather muffled microphone, the Beale matriarch said: "Come on, this breakfast is important".

The line was clearly edited into the programme during the editing process, despite it serving little to no purpose to the context of the scene.

One fan said of the moment: "This is the worst but most hilarious."
